It was the last day of the week-long Bhagvad Saptah,
religious seven day ritual of Bhagvad Gita recital.
Echoing over the expanse of the locality
and beyond
it drew thousands to a religious gathering,
one staged after a hiatus of almost half a decade,
in the premises of the holy Krishna Temple,
Gathered at nights they listened to Puran
they clapped, danced, sang in unison
and offered what they could.
The end was marked with "Abir Yatra", a vermilion rally,
destined to Uttar Bahini.
And there they were, faces painted red en masse
chanting the hymns in a loop.
Rammed inside three buses, they carried on their chants and lores
till they got off where they should.
Soon followed dancing and chanting, an incense ceremony
and a dump of vermilion smeared florals onto the polluted
unusually northbound serpentine Uttar Bahiri
and,
As they made their way back
As they made their way back
soon resumed backbiting, cursing
and returned their usual self.
